Congratulations go out to Michael Whitaker, our famous photojournalist.

  Michael's photographs were selected for publication on the internet side:  Vision Project.
"Vision Project is an organization dedicated to the development of investigative journalism, documentary photography, multimedia and education. The goal of Vision Project is to produce documentary material and educational programs that encourage understanding and awareness about a broad range of social issues. This information and programming is for the general public with a particular focus on members of the younger generation. Vision Project seeks to reinforce the social, cultural and historical value documentary work contributes to society. To reach these goals, we have assembled a talented group of professionals with extensive expertise in photograp! hy, web technology, journalism, multimedia, video, design and education.

Ceramic Sculpture in Gallery C

Alexandra Pearson, ceramic sculptor, will exhibit her recent work in Gallery C during the month of February, 2013. Her work will be shown in addition to the art in our Winter Invitational.  Twelve established artists will display an interesting array of paintings, sculptures, fibers, mixed-media and ceramics.  The artists inlcude
Mike Coulson, John Sadowsky, Juan Rojo, Cedar Nordbye, Paula Kavorik, Gary Parisi, Greg Bowden, Evan Lebaroff, Terry Kenney, Katie Dann and Shamek Weddle.  The opening reception is Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5 PM until 8 PM.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Mural

Cedar Lorca Nordbye is creating a mural on the building that will soon be the new Casablanca Restaurant.

The subject of his mural brings to mind the Middle-East, or 'The Orient' from the 19th century Orientalism to Disney's Alladin.  The mural is being created in conjunction with Gallery Fifty Six's third annual Winter Invitational Exhibition.  Artists participating are Greg Bowden, John Sadowski, Mike Coulson, Evan Lebaroffe, Terry Kenney, Katie Dann, Bien Howard, Paula Kovarik, Cedar Lorca Nordbye, Juan Rojo, Gary Parisi, and Shamek Weddle.

The opening reception for the exhibit is on  Friday,

 February 1st, from 5 until 8 PM.

  The event is free and open to the public.

Nordbye Creates A Mural for the Gallery Opening

Artist and art professor Cedar Lorca Nordbye is creating a mural on the building next door to the gallery. Mr. Nordbye came up with the idea to have a mural created in conjunction with Gallery Fifty Six's WINTER INVITATIONAL.  The mural will be painted on the front of the vacant building on the west side of the gallery.  Thanks to the owner, Aimer Shtaya, for allowing the artists to create the mural.  The building will be converted into a restaurant, Casablanca, in the near future.

Michael's exhibition 'Memphis Icongoraphy' is currently on display in the main gallery.  His show will run until December 29, 2012 and it includes photographs and paintings. All works are for sale.
